Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Serum
Container/Tube: Serum gel or red top
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instruction:
1. Draw blood 1 hour after completion of infusion of an intravenous dose or 2 hours after an intramuscular or oral dose of vancomycin.
2. Label specimen as serum.
3. Avoid hemolysis and lipemia.
Reference Values
Therapeutic concentration: 25-50 µg/mL
Toxic concentration (automatic call-back): >80 µg/mL
