Specimen Requirements

Forms: Pathology/Tissue/Cytology Requisition Tissue (Examination and Clinical History portions) in Requisitions in Special Instructions

 

Flow Cytometry, Frozen Section, or Genetic Analysis

Specimen Type: Tissue

Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container

Specimen Volume: Entire specimen

Collection Instructions:

1. Submit fresh or fresh frozen specimen. (Formalin-treated specimen is not acceptable.)

2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and time of collection, and type of specimen.

 

All Other Tissue Examinations

Specimen Type: Tissue

Container/Tube: Screw-capped container with 10% formalin

Specimen Volume: Entire specimen

1. Obtain container(s) with 10% formalin.

2. Place tissue in 10% formalin solution.

3. Using unique requisition label, label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and time of collection, and type of specimen.

Reference Values

An interpretative report will be provided.
