Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preferred:
Specimen Type: Plasma
Container/Tube: Mint-green top (lithium heparin gel)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instruction:
1. A 12 to 14 hour fast is recommended for accurate results.
2. Label specimen as plasma.
3. Avoid hemolysis and lipemia.
Acceptable:
Specimen Type: Serum
Container/Tube: Serum gel or red top
Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Reference Values
Heightened risk: <40 mg/dL
Medium risk: 40-60 mg/dL
Protection probable: >60 mg/dL
