Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Serum

Container/Tube: Red top or serum gel

Preferred Volume to Collect: 4.5 mL

Minimum Volume to Collect: 1.0 mL

Neonate Volume to Collect: 0.5 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Draw blood 1 hour after completion of infusion of an intravenous dose or 2 hours after an intramuscular or oral dose of gentamicin.

2. Avoid hemolysis and lipemia.

Additional Information: If dosage and dosing information are provided, they will be included on report to enhance clinical interpretation.

Reference Values

Therapeutic concentration: 0.5-10.0 µg/mL

Toxic concentration (automatic call-back): >10.0 µg/mL
