Specimen Requirements

Plasma or serum and urine are required for this test.

 

Preferred Collection:  Plasma/serum drawn within 24 of urine collection.

Acceptable Collection:  Plasma/serum collected within 48 before or after the start of urine collection.

 

Patient’s height and weight are required.

 

Submit only 1 of the following blood specimens:

 

Preferred:

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube: Mint-green top (lithium heparin gel)

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instruction: 

1. Label specimen as plasma.

2. Avoid hemolysis and lipemia.

 

Acceptable:

Specimen Type: Serum

Container/Tube: Serum gel or red top

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instruction: 

1. Label specimen as serum.

2. Avoid hemolysis and lipemia.

 

Specimen Type: Urine
Container/Tube: 24-hour urine container
Specimen Volume: Entire collection
Collection Instructions:

1. Collect a 24-hour urine specimen.
2. No preservative.

3. Refrigerate specimen during collection.
Additional Information:
1. Starting and ending times of collection are required.

2. Follow instructions in Urine Collection in Special Instructions.

CREATININE CLEARANCE

Males: 85-125 mL/minute

Females: 75-115 mL/minute

 

SERUM/PLASMA CREATININE

0.6-1.3 mg/dL

 

URINE CREATININE

0.6-2.5 g/24 hour
